‘I thought I knew Aberystwyth, but this is a real eye-opener!’
‘Aberystwyth? Sgersli Bilif!’
‘Great walking tour and stories about restless aber. I thought the pictures really added a lot. I appreciated that the stories included some things that resonance might already know but there were lots of things that residents wouldn’t have known about details and anecdotes etc. I really like that. Seemed like a great group of other people on the Walking Tour as well.’
‘Fantastic Tour. Alison’s tours never disappoint nor fail to enrich the palimpsest of local history. First rate and thoroughly enjoyable.’

Details:
Aberystwyth seems such a quiet town doesn’t it? Who would have thought that there has been so many instances of times of un-rest? Do you think you know Aberystwyth? Locals have been surprised; some stories they know of course but think quirky, think humour, think mischief.
Activism for a peaceful resolution is the theme of the walk. Your host will reveal tales and historical events when Aberystwyth was not so quiet! Learn about the peace protests, de-bagging, unruly students and the Aberystwyth Rag; perhaps you will start to look upon Aberystwyth through a different lens. The walk will last 2 hrs 40 minutes and starts at the railway station with scenes of demonstrations from the 40s. It is a gentle walk, no hills, but an opportunity to ask questions and meet new friends. Some stories you may know, some you may feel a little uncomfortable to hear; I use period language and quotes from newspapers. We would hope that we have learnt from previous mistakes and passions.
We will visit the Climate Shop for a wholesome home-made snack (all vegetarian) which is included in the cost of your tour. Everything at the climate shop earns, including your complimentary lunch, which = to new trees being planted. A full compliment of walkers will plant @ 65 trees! Its a win-win initiative and planet friendly.
Want to know a little more? What role did the current museum play in unrest? Think pea shooters, potatoes and confetti! This tour has taken 8 months to prepare with many hours ferreting in archives. It encompasses, activism, peace and a few laughs.
Are you visiting Aberystwyth? Do you have 6 people who would like to have a a walk around the, not so well known, streets of the town? Aberdabbadoo is happy to run a bespoke tour, just get in contact.
Starting from GB £16.00 (includes a soup and roll – vegetarian luncheon)
What a recent participant has said,
‘If you think you know Aber, think again! I joined Alison for her guided walk, Restless Aberystwyth and it was absolutely brilliant. While the town generally feels like a quiet sleepy seaside town, Alison masterfully reveals a much more radical past. She is an amazing story teller with a rare gift for making you feel as though you are living through the events she describes. Her passion for the town’s history of peace and activism is infectious, and the stories she shared were informative, deeply moving and thought provoking; it was incredibly powerful; sparking much discussion and leaving me with questions I am still thinking about. It is a fabulous insight into local history that some even long term residents would find interesting.
To top it off, there was a lovely break in the middle for soup and a roll; perfect. Whether you are local or just visiting, don’t miss this. Alison doesn’t just show you the streets of town, she brings the spirit of the town to life. I highly recommend. it!’
