Join Our Storytelling Afternoon Tea Experience at Gregynog Hall, Newtown- Tea with the Sisters

Date to be announced – event is in preparation for delivery in April 2027

Includes:

Storytelling delivered through letters sourced from archives at the National Library of Wales between the Sisters and TJ. Jones. The talk focusses on seven significant people in the Davies’ circle who helped make the Sisters’ Gregynog project a success. The main gentleman was TJ Jones (known as TJ) who was also secretary to three Prime Ministers but also had a keen interest in the success of Gregynog. He knew the right people, and acted as a guardian angel.

The event will focus on the Influence and importance of the Davies Sisters to the Welsh nation. Most people know about the sisters extensive art collections but their philanthropic reach spread through Wales and as far away as Kent. You will be greeted with a glass of Prosecco in the front hall to mingle before the delivery of a narrated talk which is about an hour and then we will finish in the Music room for afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea is included and will definitely have cucumber sandwiches- Daisy’s favourite.

The experience will last about 2.5hrs. I can promise you a Powerpoint free zone!

Details:

Gwendoline and Daisy Davies were significant influencers of the Arts in Wales. The afternoon is narrated through letters sourced from archives of TJ Jones and Gwen Davies. The success of Gregynog wasn’t entirely theirs. I will I cover the influential people who made Gregynog so significant during the two World Wars until their collection was given to the Nation and displayed in the National Museum in Cardiff.

You will arrive for a Prosecco greeting and move to the rooms where the Sisters dreamt up their vision for a venue to teach and preserve the traditional craft. The talk will be held in the Senior Common Room on the ground floor with a brief visit to the library. The experience will last about an hour and will cover the wide influence of the sisters legacy which will culminate in afternoon tea in the Music Room. Gregynog is famous for its excellent afternoon tea and we will use samples of the Davies sisters crockery with the Gregynog Hall insignia on it!
