Keeping within the circular economy
Why aberdabbadoo is sustainable and continues to thrive to become net zero and stay within the circular economy. It is something I am proud of and many other businesses in Aberystwyth care about this.

Upcycled and re-cycled
All props and clothes that I use for walks are sourced second hand or are made by me. It is important to me that nothing ends up in landfill. I use charity shops and Vinted to source outfits and make my own props. It appeals to my creativity.
Why a brolly with star signs?…all will be revealed in Ahoy m’hearties walk!

Travel and emissions
I will have asked you to travel in to the town and park on the outskirts of our town. Aberystwyth has a really big parking problem and as such people drive around town again and again looking for a space to park which contributes to pollution. This is a walking tour and you are walking anyway; In my email I advise where to park so that you use parking which is over two hours. Don’t spoil your event by running away to move your car because your parking has run out. I want you to enjoy our town; all the independent businesses are just waiting to give you a warm welcome.

Advertising and promotion
It can be hard at times to not give in to using paper, but all my marketing is digital; I create no paper leaflets that end up in landfill. I also use a QR code so that no posters go out of date. This was my intention and mission from the initiation of the business and it still remains at the heart of what I do today. I feel this is something to shout about. In 2020 I won a Green Award for just this initiative.
No waste- just mugs
Many of the walks are visited by Y Beic Chai- another zero waste business. The Chai Bike makes Masala Chai from her kitchen and transports it to you, steaming hot, to warm you up at the half-way point. She does not use paper cups but your drink is served in ceramic mugs. It tastes better too!

No travel costs
I walk to work so not to contribute to carbon emissions in our town. Y Beic Chai is a e-cargo bike. The only e:cargo business in Aberystwyth. You spot her by her Barbie pink and mustard yellow box bike!

Banking and commerce
I have recently switched to a bank with a better record of banking ethically which doesn’t support fossil fuels. I also use Ecosia as a search engine. Do you?
I even clean the doorsteps and castle mosaics before walks!
