I am not a Welsh native, but have lived in Wales for over 28 years; I undertake a Duolingo exercise daily, but still struggle with the lingo. I sometimes feel a fraud but my intentions are very real. What’s a Lancastrian doing talking about Welsh culture?
But what is another award to me? Well today I picked up my Ceredigion Tourism Ambassador Gold Award and I can’t be prouder. No its till doesn’t make me Welsh but it gives me some armour.
I love Wales, and I love my hometown, I am passionate about showing folks; both visitors and locals what we have here. Even locals are surprised by what I have dug up from archives. The Ambassador training has been a complementary addition to highlighting wider the attractions, heritage, culture, history, geography of this amazing place.
Why do I do my walks you wonder? Because I like opening people’s eyes to our secret gems, its rewarding and fun. However, my inner campaign is to create a ‘slow tourism’ initiative. Tourists speed through Ceredigion between their visit to pretty Pembrokeshire and in a rush to capture busy Snowdon. It’s so frustrating; how do we get them to take a while. America has its Turquoise Trail between Santa Fe and Alberquerque; why can’t we do something similar? The drive is about 50 miles long with scenic views; a short stop at Madrid, a sleepy small historic mining town is a treat.
This post is out there saying; let’s get together, let’s move and shake and create a ‘Turquoise Trail’ for Ceredigion; we have so much to offer; excellent restaurants, locally sourced food, dramatic scenes, great independent shops, outdoor attractions, and creatives who could make such a difference.
How do we do it? Who can we influence? Let’s face it, we will all benefit. Meanwhile I will be wearing my new badge with pride. Thank you Ceredigion Tourism.
If you have visitors, own a business that has visiting dignitaries, my walks will entertain and give a flavour of our area. Look me up to see my 5 star reviews. https://www.aberdabbadoo.com
